By Bike:
Serious cyclists who wonder whether to ride up the coast or down are advised that traveling southward ensures a tailwind most of the way, and better views of the coastline. Cyclists can get a copy of the Oregon Coast Bike Route Map at highway information centers or from the Oregon Department of Transportation (www.odot.state.or.us/techserv/bikewalk).
Cyclists should plan to spend a part of their Gold Beach experience exploring the Rogue River. And for those planning to cycle only a part of the Oregon Coast, the Southern Coast is advisable. Traffic is lighter than up north, the highway is wide and the views are incredible.
By Raft:
Some people land in Gold Beach via a whitewater raft on the Rogue River. For information on traveling this way and accommodations along the way - some accessible only by watercraft or helicopter - contact Half Moon Bar Lodge (www.halfmoonbarlodge.com) or Singing Springs Resort (www.singingspringsresort.net).
